While must-have leadership manuals proliferate at a startling rate, leaders in the INGO, ethical, faith and educational worlds are still being thrust into leadership with a little basic theory from the old paradigm that mainly offers them role models to obey, tools to deploy, and lists of qualities in which they must effortlessly excel. It’s exhausting, it’s daunting, and much of it is out of date. For leaders who can invest in deeper leadership formation, often the programmes are dazzlingly impressive, but trainees come away unchanged, even more daunted, and without a way of navigating from their real present to the agile, complex, later-stage superhuman they feel they must become.
The leadership support I offer starts where you are. I help you to understand yourself more deeply; both your internal landscape, and how others experience you. I then offer a few relevant current models and theories to apply to your reality, absorbing and integrating what’s directly helpful, and leaving the rest aside. Perhaps most importantly, I co-create space with you, to look at the whole landscape of your leadership and seek out greater balance, in accordance with your natural strengths; between task and people, between visionary and pragmatic, between exertion and rest, between challenge and nourishment.
The two leadership profiling tools I am certified in are also centred around understanding and then deploying your real self, not changing yourself in someone else’s image.
I work with leaders in four ways; through leadership programmes, through Leadership Circle or Leadership Development Profiles to grow self-awareness, through facilitating leadership teams, and through one-to-one coaching.
